ALL LEVELS The Business of Being an Artist Making art and thinking about business decisions are not mutually exclusive! Practical advice to artists wanting to gain greater visibility and recognition for their artwork. Presentation, promotion, documentation and exhibition of work, along with aspects of pricing and the importance of networking will be discussed. ALL LEVELS Soldering Skills - Jewelry & Metalsmithing If soldering successfully has been a challenge or if you just want to learn more about this fundamental skill, this is your workshop! The focus is on soldering for acuracy and consistency, with a discussion about tools and supplies, then hands-on experience in executing various solder joints using different methods. GRADES 9 - 12 Portfolio Development for the Aspiring Fashion Designer Guidance for the student planning to apply to a college-level fashion design department. The instructor will offer critiques of two of the student's work. Based on that observation, the student will then develop an additional work for their portfolio. LEVEL II Flower Painting Workshop How to paint flowers more simply and easily. Work from an elaborate, multi-floral still life with many shapes and colors of both fresh and artificial flowers. Learn how to reduce floral structures to their simplest form, to be painted in brilliant, juicy color. LEVEL II Printmaking: Make 'Em Colorful & Make 'Em Fast! Start Friday night with project proposals for a weekend exploration of color prints. Work in monotype, monoprint, relief, and intaglio. LEVELS II-III Dyeing on Fabric Intensive workshop for the experienced dyer. Work on silk and other natural fiber fabrics; experiment with Procion dyes and acid dyes. SPRING ART CAMPS
If imagination is the key to building colorful ways to express the amazing world around us, then the Spring Break Art Camps at the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center are where that imagination is unleashed. The camps for youngsters -as young as kindergartners- are an opportunity for children to develop artistic talents and explore new media under the guidance of a professional staff in a small classroom environment. Hands-on projects provide fun and exciting experiences for budding artists in bright, spacious studios.
Spring Break Art Camp -- Grades 1-8 -- March 24-28 / 9 AM-3 PM daily $185 BBAC members, $235 Guests Additional programs with enrichment activities suitable for all age groups -- Art Start, 8-9 AM daily, $30 for the week Art Extra, 3-5 PM daily, $60 for the week
New this year is Half Day Kindergartner Camp for children of at least 5 years of age -- March 24-28 / 9 AM-Noon daily Themed lessons geared to experimentation with drawing, painting and three-dimensional media. Students will learn how to care for art supplies as well as respect others’ work. $99 BBAC Members, $149 Guests
Camps are held on the beautiful campus of the BBAC, located at 1516 S. Cranbrook, Birmingham MI 48009 between 14 and 15 Mile Roads.
